Entry #6: Ethics and the Real World

Considering the very debatable issue of Ethics, I have recorded a blog in response to the following questions from my perspective opinion on the topic:

(1) The definition of ethics:

  • Ethics is the code of rules and conduct recognized in respect to particular actions or values. Such as the moral principles of an individual.

 (2) How will ethics affect my work as a teacher an my students and colleagues:

  •  The personal code of ethics that I will have developed in my years leading up to teaching, will have a great impact on the students and colleagues surrounding me one day. I think that one person's code of ethics can have a strong rippling effect on others. This can be a positive thing or a negative thing.

(3) The pros and cons of being concerned with ethics:

  • The possible Pros: I believe that one's conscious as well as one's reputation will be as clean as that person wants them to be. It will be in my power to make a name for myself; a key feature of this name will involve my personal ethics and how well I stick to them.
  • The inevitable Cons: By keeping grounded in my ethics and moral convictions concerning a code of ethics will surely bring ridicule from certain different angles of the topic; everyone is their own person, meaning everyone's opinion is bound to be different from the next. I may make some enemies with certain differing ethical convictions in the work field.

  1. Your walk will shout far louder and farther than your talk will be heard. I have found that has brought me more respect than ridicule.
