This is an interesting notion. I think the idea is attractive; every student having his or her own laptop for every day of the school year. However, I think there is a disadvantage to this considering the price of computers and the level of responsibility. For example, I, as a teacher, would not particularly want to trust every 5th grade student with a computer to take home.
Therefore, I do not think it would be wise to supply the schools with computers to all students. I would sooner set an age/grade limit for this to occur.
I'm curious about your statement that you "would not particularly want to trust every 5th grade student with a computer to take home." Are you concerned about his losing the computer? playing games on it? breaking it? going places on the web that s/he shouldn't go?
